Core aeration is absolutely the most important and beneficial lawn treatment you can invest in.  If you plan on spending any money on lawn care this season, make sure you have your lawn aerated at least once.  The cost is very insignificant compared to the countless benefits, our price for an average sized lawn ranges from $50-$80.  If you already have your lawn aerated regularly, enjoy our rock bottom prices and keep us in mind for your aeration(s) this season.  Click here to open our core aeration brochure which includes a coupon for $10 off your first aeration! Below are listed five of the top advantages of aerating that will help illustrate just how beneficial it will be for your lawn:

1. In a city like Calgary, deep root development and increased drought tolerance are crucial factors to keep your lawn healthy during the hot and dry summer months.  Soil becomes very compacted from both the weight of a heavy snowfall, and the freeze-thaw process, which is very extensive in Calgary due to many chinooks in the winter.  This leads to a shallow and weak root system, which will ultimately result in a patchy, unhealthy lawn.  Aeration is the only method for eliminating soil compaction; it can be compared to roto-tilling your garden prior to planting.  Relieving compaction with core aeration will promote and accelerate deeper and thicker root development, leaving you with a thick, green lawn.

2. Compaction can also drastically increase your water bill by causing your lawn to uptake moisture very inefficiently.  Most of the water will simple run off or pool rather than soak down to the roots where it is needed.  Aerating will significantly increase your lawn's water uptake while at the same time saving you money.
3. Your lawn is continually accumulating a thick layer of thatch at the soil surface, which is made up of undecomposed dead materials such as leaves and grass clippings.  When it becomes excessive, your lawn will root into the thatch instead of the soil.  Since it does not retain moisture, lawns rooted into thatch will not tolerate dry weather or hot temperatures.  Thatch can also harbour insects and disease.  It can be controlled by aerating at least once a season and power raking in the spring.  Be sure to get a quote for both power raking and aeration to receive a package deal!

4. Any lawn care professional will tell you that the best defense against weeds is a thick and healthy lawn.  Routine aerations combined with sufficient watering is all you need to accomplish this.  If you like to fertilize, aeration will also decrease the amount of fertilizer lost to runoff which will make it much more effective.
5. A thick green lawn can dramatically increase the value of your home.  The appearance and health of your lawn will inevitably give potential buyers a sense of how you care for the rest of your house.  Imagine the impression you get from a house with a patchy, brown, weed infested lawn versus one with a beautiful, well maintained lawn.  Get the recognition you deserve for the full potential value of your property!
